Description

A vigorous, undemanding climber that climbs using leaf tendrils (without adhesive pads). Leaves, composed of 5 egg-shaped, coarsely toothed leaflets, are green in summer, and turn red in autumn. It attains a height of 10-20m (1-2m of annual growth). Generally healthy, fully frost-hardy and undemanding. Due to the lack of adhesive pads it can’t scale a bare wall. Particularly useful for growing up wire meshes, arbours, pergolas and various supports. It can also be used as ground cover.

A very attractive variety with green-white leaves, with pink shadows during prolonged cold weather. Nicely on a wall. Looks best in a place sheltered from the wind and afternoon sun. It breaks the monotony of uniform green. Leaves are smaller than those of the species. Moderately strong increases. Reaches 3-6 meters. Annually, grows 0.5-1m. It can even grow on smooth walls. A common, vigorous, self-clinging vine adhering itself to supports by means of adhesive pads at the ends of leaf tendrils. Leaves large, single, 3-lobed, firm, glossy deep green, turning brilliant scarlet in autumn resemble tile work. Excellent on a wall. It may freeze during severe winters.

A vigorous climber. Semi-evergreen leaves are composed of 5 leathery, deep green leaflets mottled with white. Pale pink, fragrant flowers open in May. A good pollinator for other cultivars of the species. It has very interesting, sausage-shaped fruit with edible flesh. The stems twine round the supports. A vigorous climber (but a slower grower than Vitis coignetiae) with stunning, large (15-25 cm), 3-5 lobed leaves that turn crimson in autumn. Attains a height of 6-8 m with up to 2 m of annual growth. It has small soil requirements and is frost hardy. Native to Far East (China, Japan, Korea, Syberia). Suitable for growing up tall fences, arbours, and sturdy supports, everywhere where there is too little room for Vitis coignetiae.
Pruning: when it disturbs neighbouring plants. It’s best pruned in late autumn or winter (before the start of the growing season), or in summer, after the new wood has become partially woody. Otherwise it will bleed sap.

An American, early blooming prolific female cultivar bearing tasty fruits (Mini Kiwi): sweet, with a honey flavour and aroma, and a smooth, edible skin. Medium-sized roundish berries, with a reddish-brown bloom when in full sun, ripen during September and October. After maturing they soften quickly.
