Description

A Czech variety selected in a natural setting in the mountains of South Korea. A moderately vigorous self-clinging climber with attractive foliage: three-lobed, coarsely toothed rounded leaves, wavy at the edges, deep green in summer and turning brilliant scarlet in autumn. It climbs by means of adhesive pads at the ends of leaf tendrils. An undemanding and healthy plant, it tolerates moderate soils. Particularly useful for covering walls, arbours, pergolas, trees, pylons and various kinds of supports.

Parthenocissus inserta - Thicket creeper

A vigorous, undemanding climber that climbs using leaf tendrils (without adhesive pads). Leaves, composed of 5 egg-shaped, coarsely toothed leaflets, are green in summer, and turn red in autumn. It attains a height of 10-20m (1-2m of annual growth). Generally healthy, fully frost-hardy and undemanding. Due to the lack of adhesive pads it can’t scale a bare wall. Particularly useful for growing up wire meshes, arbours, pergolas and various supports. It can also be used as ground cover.

A common, vigorous, self-clinging vine adhering itself to supports by means of adhesive pads at the ends of leaf tendrils. Leaves large, single, 3-lobed, firm, glossy deep green, turning brilliant scarlet in autumn resemble tile work. Excellent on a wall. It may freeze during severe winters.

Parthenocissus quinquefolia Star showers - variegated Virginia creeper

A very attractive variety with green-white leaves, with pink shadows during prolonged cold weather. Nicely on a wall. Looks best in a place sheltered from the wind and afternoon sun. It breaks the monotony of uniform green. Leaves are smaller than those of the species. Moderately strong increases. Reaches 3-6 meters. Annually, grows 0.5-1m. It can even grow on smooth walls. Particularly useful for growing on the walls, but is also suitable for growing over arbors, pergolas and other supports.

Fallopia aubertii - silver lace vine

The most rampant climber of our climate with densely twining stems up to 12m long (6m of annual growth). Small, green, ovate-lanceolate leaves fall off after frost. From August to October tiny white flowers are borne abundantly on short branchlets. Though tolerant of poor soils, it will grow much quicker in a fertile ground. Prefers sunny sites. It may freeze during severe winters. Due to its vigorous growth it's excellent for covering unsightly buildings and tall fences, but will grow equally well over arbors, pergolas and various supports of a strong construction. Quickly creates the desired effect and should be pruned back if becomes excessively expansive. Well suited for cultivation on a balcony.

Akebia quinata Variegata - five-leaf akebia (chocolate vine)

A vigorous climber. Semi-evergreen leaves are composed of 5 leathery, deep green leaflets mottled with white. Pale pink, fragrant flowers open in May. A good pollinator for other cultivars of the species. It has very interesting, sausage-shaped fruit with edible flesh. The stems twine round the supports. The variegation is more pronounced in full sun. Suitable for training up fences and various supports. It can also be left to climb up the trees. Ideal for growing over arbours, pergolas or gates.
