A vigorous, perennial plant valued for its very thick, juicy leaf petioles and high yield. This variety is one of the largest rhubarbs cultivated in gardens – it typically grows to 1–1.2 m tall and similarly wide, forming striking, spreading clumps. The plant produces large, green leaves and long, red-green petioles with a slightly sour, aromatic flavor. It grows best in sunny or semi-shaded locations, in fertile, humus-rich, and consistently slightly moist soil. It is frost-hardy, easy to grow, and long-lived, making it an excellent choice for both home gardens and commercial crops. The cooked leaf petioles are edible and have a wide range of culinary uses. They are excellent for making cakes, juices, jams, compotes, and various desserts and preserves. The leaves are not suitable for consumption.
